A Declaration of Intent
/Here is where I begin my quest.
Like so many others this begins with so much promise and fanfare of trumpets heralding the pending victory of my labors. As we all know, they will turn into the nagging siren wail of a daily alarm calling me to dreary labor soon enough.
For now, I shall speak with the lazy confidence of a traveler packing for an extended trip. I stand awaiting the triumph that is my due.
Before I’ve done the work of course.
We are all so very sure of ourselves before we actually begin.
Here is what I shall try to do. I will write one poem a day. That is the only requirement.
Some will be short and some quite protracted. That’s the nature of the beast.
I’ve been here before after all!
Many years ago I set out to accomplish this tiny yet terribly difficult task. I would write one poem every day for one year.
That sounds reasonable until you really think about the strange nature of inspiration. A muse is often difficult to entice into daily appearances. She’s a busy lady after all…
So, I managed to write quite a few poems that year, but the gaps between them grew ever larger. Eventually, entropy claimed the project.
But… now that I have returned to college and am forced to discipline my time more effectively, I think I’m up to another challenge!
Let’s write some poems, shall we?
