Towards the setting sun
He seeks the first glimpse of shadow
Easing the land into its slumber
Quiet in the eaves and bowers
Under the fronds and ivies
In the growing gloom
Chilling the humid summer air
Knight of the darkness
Bringer of the cries of owls
Reaper of the small and scurrying
Onus to none
Wildness in blood and deed
Neat in claw and cutting
Fearless in the forest
Out on the hunt
Xanthic his eyes shine
Jasmine blooming in his shade
Ubiquitous as death exists
Mired in the bare dirt
Prey before the aged
Sylvan in setting
Otherly in the gloaming
Vainglorious and yet just
Ethereal in solidity
Recursive as memory
This is his sea
His fiefdom of field and glen
Endless in this serenity
Late to the flooding
Abed before dawn
Zealot of the woodlands
Yearning for the loam
Divining in the deep
Otherworldly as the old ones
God among the embers
