7.19.2023 - Drowse

Drowse
The undertow of blankets.
A riptide clasping legs and suffocating,
Pillows ensnare arms,
Weighted like anchors.
Sleep is a sneak thief,
Stealing the hours,
Sweeping and sinking,
Drowning in the liquid darkness,
Breathless midnight the demon on the chest.
Now lay me down to sleep,
Paralyzed in REM,
Eyelids flickering.
With sleep bearing away,
To lightless shores,
All that one may be.
