Shop Until Irritation: Stop Before Anger
It should be so easy,
Who doesn’t love a shop after all?
Yet with each aisle, the tension mounts.
Like electricity building before the arc,
Like paint scraped off the edges,
Worn down and threadbare,
My nerves and my personality.
I just want to be normal.
I want to go to the store and browse.
I want to remain in good spirits.
I want to be able to simply be,
Enjoying the good weather,
Grateful for the opportunity,|
The ability to buy a new rug,
While so many others struggle.
So many blessings,
Falling on broken hands,|
Slipping through overly flexed fingers,
Overly strained nerves.
So, we quit while we’re behind.
At least this time,
I’m smart enough to bail out early,
To ride the edge of that chasm,
Still with humanity and respect.
Better to fail to find what I sought,
To stop while irritated,
And avoid rueful anger.
