Comet

Comet

Plains dew effulgent with the subtle shimmer of the stars,
Gracious moonlight softly ladled over barren winter branches.
The trees glisten, the grasses burn with inner fire,
Englamoured Night in all her majesty steps forth.
The velvet folds of her midnight gown,
Drape across the land with deep hush and reverence.
While her child the owl and his brother the wolf,
Venture forth from daylights dreams,
Singing fierce hunting songs to the spangled sky,
She glides across fields and briers with delicate tread,
Alpha Crucis shining in her raven hair,
Orion a jewel upon her silken brow.
In the east conflagration!
Brightest comet appears, springing forth like an idea,
Riding high in Night's deep tresses, ornament unsurpassed.
Sibilant breeze trickles past with her delighted laughter.
In their dens and nighten roosts diurnal creatures wake,
Alive to the sudden brightness in deep heaven,
Creeping forth in awe of Night’s rare bounty.
The comet streaks across the sky like fire,
Blazing and dazzling, an enkindled wonder,
Trailing crystalline tail of purest sapphire.
Stars wheel and turn as the comet sails on,
Indifferent and cold in its glamour.
Night ravishes all in her newly vibrant beauty,
Leaving breathless the staid denizens of her realm.
The comet soars over the horizon leaving Night bereft.
She chases after, glittering in her moonlit gown.
Her children, abandoned, creep silently back to warm dens,
Content to sleep another gaudy day away,
Dreaming of the splendor of Nights eyes.
Flashy Day erupts upon the scene,
Aglow with vibrant throbbing morning,
Racing after the soft quiet beauty of Night,
His beloved, ever apart from him in her grandeur,
Dancing on before him and soon to follow after.
