Obsession
I want someone who will look at me,
With the intensity that my dog watches a ball.
That single-minded focus,
Body nearly quivering with readiness,
His entire tiny being readied for the chase.
Such a humble thing is a rubber ball,
Waiting to be airborne and pursued,
To fixate his entire being.
Filling his world with its weight,
It's certainly his utter focus.
I want to hold such enigmatic power,
That call to devotion,
A siren song of longing.
Or, more accurately, ⅓ the obsessive power.
I think such adoration can only exist,
In such pure and simple pleasures.
If I was the source of that fixation,
I would need a restraining order to go check my mail.
I throw the ball as hard and fast as I can.
Watch it rise into the air,
Hanging poised in the height of its arc,
Shining in the sun. |
He tears after it,
Yipping in crazed ecstasy.
Obsession is one hell of a drug.
