Under the Flesh
The skin you live within suits you now,
It wasn't always so.
Compelled my fingers flicker behind my back.
I lean against them to resist,
The urge to test that flesh,
To test the softness and light,
To taste tears flavoring your cheeks,
Poor man's sea salt.
To peel back the sunburned flecks,
Revealing the creamy perfection below.
The way your eyes cause ripples,
Furrows on your brow.
My palms yearn to smooth them,
To trace each fine line and fold.
I want to feel the you in there,
The person dwelling,
Just under this layer.
Shifting at ease,
Beneath your renewed flesh.
I tremble in place.
Holding bitten breath.
Refusing the summons.
I drink you with my eyes,
Contented and bereft.
