You'll Never Know
To Whom it May Concern,
Nope, that's awful.
Dear Reader,
Oh God, who do I think I am?
Getting all Stephen King,
Constant Reader indeed.
How about -
Hi, Hello, Hola!
Maybe too far.
Greetings and Salutations,
Ugh,
Skip.
Hello,
Dear Person,
You don't know me,
But You'll never know…
Oh of course you won't,
Because I have all the words.
I can say,
And even spell,
Prognostication,
Supplication,
Adulation,
But somehow, often,
Please is too hard.
All the perfect syllables,
The ways to explain,
Flee before my fumbling tongue.
I want to tell you,
You're amazing.
I would fall alone,
You hold me high.
But instead, there's silence.
There's stumbling.
There's awkward turbulence.
There's me wishing,
Upon those far stars,
To light my path.
To illuminate the road,
Highlighting the glimmering consonants,
The gossamer whisps of vowels,
The bone structure of prose,
Words both bright and grim.
Metaphors of shields and bowers,
Similes like poetry or solutions,
Soliloquy for me,
Singing into the void.
The space between our lips,
Those miles of meaning.
Without the key,
Map sans legend,
A road we cannot walk,
Together.
As my silence,
My sealed in wax lips,
Build a palisade.
A wall only visible to me.
Dredging a moat,
With no bridge to span,
This gulf.
All because I cannot,
Find the magic words,
To make you see,
To show you,
What you will never know.
