Prayer for the Awake

Now I lay me down to sleep,
But the coldness of my feet,
Keeps me writhing wide awake,
Tossing and turning while I shake.
Swim up from slumber; it'd be so nice,
Swaddled perchance into dreams of fire, dreams of ice.
If I ever get to dream,
If this night is shorter than it might seem,
I pray I wake next morning rested,
Without my patience sorely tested.
These things I pray at 3 a.m.,
Sleepless, hopeless, yet again.
