African Violets

Tender leaves and bitter shoots,
Can you eat African Violets?
Place those amethyst petals,
Upon eager lips?
They are so difficult.
It is often said of violets,
Even a green thumb struggles.
There are two types of gardens,
Those with tender transient purple blossoms,
And those devoid of their tricks.
Thriving I'm shadowed hollows.
No glaring sun biting their leaves,
No prying eyes to see.
Where these Violets grow,
Bare feet and patience follow.
Why does nothing live,
Once it suffers my touch?
Yet, brittle violets thrive.
